Strategic Agreement with Pod Point for Flexibility Trial
Centrica has entered into a strategic agreement with Pod Point, one of the UK's largest providers of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, to support their expansion into energy flexibility - the management of flexible energy resources to optimise electricity generation and consumption across the grid.
At the heart of this agreement is a six-month trial to provide flexibility services to shared Pod Point and British Gas customers through our Centrica DSR platform. This will allow these customers to optimise their EV charging in terms of both cost and carbon footprint, benefiting from a bespoke trial tariff through British Gas.
Through onboarding these joint customers onto Centrica DSR’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP), this provides a brilliant opportunity to increase the flexibility we are able to provide and to develop innovative solutions for residential customers.
British Gas is committed to providing our customers with sustainable energy solutions which is why we are pleased to support Pod Point’s extensive network of connected EV charging points. Integrating Pod Point's flexibility services into our Virtual Power Plant will add a valuable layer to our capabilities and will further strengthen this commitment.
As part of our mission to make EV charging affordable and low-carbon for our customers, it's important that we take the lead in accessing new flex markets. With Centrica we are trialling access to the Balancing Market, which historically has not accepted EV charging flex. Our joint aim is to demonstrate that EV charging can be a valuable new source of flex in this market, to the benefit of our customers and the National Grid.
